Sino-Foreign Students of KUST Conducted Voluntary Activities in Wetland Environmental Protection

On December 6th,120 sino-foreignof the School of International Educationof KUST conducted voluntary activities in wetland environmental protection in Laoyu River Wetland Park in Chenggong district. The international studentswho participated in this activity come from more than 20 countries, such as Madagascar, Pakistan, Thailand, Myanmar and Kenya. The school hopes thatstudents can learn about wetlands,protecttheenvironment and animals, love Kunming, andhave a deep understanding of Chinathrough the activity.

Environmental protection knows no ethnicity, and ecology has no national boundaries. In this activity, Chinese andinternational students worked in small groups to disseminate knowledge about biodiversity, environmental protection and animal protection to the public. They distributed leaflets.They also helped clean up garbageto protect the wetland environment.

Thisevent is agood practice for the students of theSchool of International Education to participate in publicservice actively. It is also ahumble effort towelcome the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), which will be held in Kunming next year. At the same time, students feel the enthusiasmfrom different countries in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphereandenhance the sense of belongingto China.

At the end of theevent, the students expressed their feelingsabouttheir participation:

LUO Yi (second-year graduate student,Chinese):We deeply feel the sense of urgency andduty onenvironmental protection. We should actively advocate and practice environmentalpreservation actions. We should start froma little bit, from ourselves, and form a lifestyle and consumption pattern of environmental protection. Everyone strives to be a propagandist and practitioner of environmental protection,and to create a good living environment with practical actions.

SHI Qiuyu (senior,Chinese):Thanks tothis activity,we have theopportunityto get close to nature andtodeepen thecommunication among students.

Lion (Pakistan): Kunming is a beautiful and warm city. I am very happy to studyat KUST. This activityallowed metodo my part for environmental protection in Kunming. With the help of my Chinesepartners, I have publicized the knowledge about biodiversity and environmental protection to tourists,which made me very happy.

CHEN Xiaohua (Madagascar): Today's participation inthisenvironmental protection activitymade me feel a lot.Not only did we take practical action to get a clean park, but we also went into nature and felt the beauty and magic of nature. I will go to the wetland park again when I have the opportunity.

Yahua (Sudan):Itwas my first timeparticipatinginenvironmental protection activities. Isaw many plants that I had never seen before. If I hadn’t participated in this activity, Iwouldn’tknow therewas such a place in Chenggong district.It made me very happy that we were very united, and wecommunicated with other students in Chinese. I hope I will have the opportunity to participate in such activity in the future.

LI Ming (Tajikistan): BeforeI came tothis activity, the teacher who organized the activity introduced the function of wetlands in detail, which enriched our knowledge about wetlands andallowed meto meet students from other countries. I think this activity is very interesting.
