Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) approved to set up and operate the State Key Laboratory of Non-human Primate Biomedicine of KUST Jointly Established by Yunnan Province and MOST. The laboratory is built in accordance with the principles of “innovative approaches, distinctive characteristics, strict standards, and province-ministry co-construction with the province as the main force”. Yunnan Province will provide the laboratory with support in its infrastructure construction, operation, management, projects application as well as team training, while the MOST will provide classified guidance and related services.

The laboratory, centered around the national development strategic goals and oriented towards human health, will conduct major basic research on non-human primate biomedicine and applied basic research on the mechanism and treatment of complex diseases. It has three research directions which include primate reproductive development and regulation, primate stem cells and tissue engineering, and primate model and disease mechanism. During the construction period, the laboratory will further refine its development direction, improve the disciplinary layout, and build a multidisciplinary integrated research team. Hopefully, in the wave of the biomedical revolution, it will promote the great-leap-forward development of basic biomedical research and clinical treatment in China and provide the scientific basis for the macroscopic decision of population health.
