On May 30, known as the fourth National Science and Technology Workers Day, the second Commendation Conference of the National Innovation Award was held in Beijing, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. Prof. WANG Hua, director of the State Key Laboratory for the Clean Utilization of Complex Nonferrous Metal Resources in KUST, was awarded the National Innovation Award.

Established in 2017 with the approval of the State Council, the National Innovation Award is another important science and technology award approved by the State Council following the National Natural Science Award, National Technological Invention Award and National Science and Technology Progress Award, and it ranks second only to the highest national science and technology award for science and technology talents. The recognition period of the National Innovation Award is 3 years. For the purpose of uniting and leading the science and technology workers to innovate in building China into a world power of science and technology, the second Commendation Conference aims to commend collectives and individuals of outstanding contributions in the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, poverty alleviation, basic research and frontier exploration, major equipment and engineering research, achievement transformation and innovation and entrepreneurship, and social services.

Prof. WANG Hua, director of the State Key Laboratory of Clean Utilization of Complex Nonferrous Metal Resources in KUST, is a member of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Energy and Power in Higher Education Departments of the Ministry of Education, an advisor of the International Committee of the International Power Engineering Conference, the vice chairman of the Yunnan Science and Technology Association, and director of the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Committee of the China Nonferrous Metals Society. He is also selected as the National Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent of the National Special Support Plan for High-level Talents, the National Talent Project for the New Century, and the Science and Technology Leading Talent of Yunnan Province. As one of the young and middle-aged academic and technical leaders enjoying the “Special Government Allowance” of the State Council in Yunnan Province, Prof. WANG Hua has presided over 38 important projects, including major projects of the National Science and Technology Support Plan, key and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, key projects of the Natural Science Foundation in Yunnan Province, international cooperation projects, and scientific and technological research projects. He has won one first prize and one second prize for the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and one provincial and ministerial special prize and three provincial and ministerial first prizes. His related technologies have been applied to more than 10 enterprises in China, and some of his technologies have been exported to twenty-one countries including the United States, Germany and Japan, with remarkable efficiency in energy conservation and emission reduction.
