Chair ZHANG Yingjie Visits Universities and Institutions in Denmark, Sweden and Norway

From January 14th to 20th, Prof.ZHANG Yingjie, Chair of the University Committee, KUST, and her delegation visited universities and relevant institutions in Denmark, Sweden and Norway by invitation. The delegationiscomposed of the heads of School of International Education (SIE), Division of Personnel, Division of Teaching Administration, and Division of Overseas Cooperation, as well as the relevant staffmembersfrom School of International.

On the 14th,ChairZHANG Yingjie and her delegation paid a visit to ZHAO Shiren,Counsellor of Educational and Cultural Section, Chinese Embassy in Denmark. The Copenhagen Business Confucius Classroom established byKUST has promoted the dissemination and promotion oftheChineselanguage and culture in Denmark, deepened the mutual understanding between two peoples, and it will promote further exchanges and cooperationbetween the two countriesin the future, said Counsellor ZHAO.ChairZHANG Yingjie responded thatKUSTers will actively respond toPresidentXi Jinping's call to expand opening up, strengthen cultural confidence, promote Chinese culture to the world, and build a bridge for exchanging high-end Sino-Danish culture through the Confucius Classroom;KUST faculties will support the Confucius Classroom to establish its own characteristics and standards, promote the higher quality development of Confucius Classroom, so as to make contributions to China and Denmark in building a community of shared future for mankind.

On the 15th, at Bleking Institute of Technology (BTH) in Sweden,ChairZHANG Yingjie and her delegation had a discussion with Mats Viberg, President of BTH, and the heads ofBTH departments and faculties, including International Office,Department of Spatial Planning, andFaculty of Engineering.PresidentViberg andChairZHANG Yingjie respectivelybriefed teaching, scientific research, and international cooperation of BTH and KUST. They reviewed and affirmed the history and experience of cooperation and exchanges between the two universities, and expressed their desire to deepen cooperation and exchanges. The representatives of both universities also renewed the teacher-student exchange agreement.

On the 16th,ChairZHANG Yingjie and herdelegation had a meeting with Prof. Stefan ?stlund, Vice President of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Prof. Sebastian Sichel, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mats Berg, Director of the Department of Vehicle Engineering, andDr. LIU Zhendong. Vice President?stlund introduced the faculty settings of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the University’scurrent cooperation projects with Swedish enterprises, government departments and relevant Chinese universities. Prof. Sichel andDr. LIU Zhendong introduced the research work of the teams from the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Vehicle Engineering, especially the innovative research results of high-speed rail supporting technology of the university's Railway Research Institute.ChairZHANG Yingjie introduced the research situation of KUST in engineering, especially the research results in traffic engineering, mechanical engineering and new materials, and expressed the willingness to strengthen cooperative research in related fields. The representatives from both sides exchanged ideas on joint scientific research, postgraduate training, student exchange, and teacher visits, and reached preliminary cooperation intentions. The delegationalsovisited the laboratories of KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

On the 17th, the delegation concluded their visit to Sweden and set off for Bergen, Norway. They were invited to observe the teaching of Chinese and martial arts at the Chinese teaching school of the Confucius Institute in Bergen, and had a talk with Prof. LI Juqian, Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute, local students’ parents and representatives of local Chinese chamber of commerce. The establishment of the Confucius Institute has increased the cohesion of the local Chinese communities and also planted the roots of Chinese culture in the hearts of the local Chinese, said the chairman of the chamber of commerce.ChairZHANG Yingjie affirmed the close relationship and good development of the Confucius Institute with the local Chinese, and expressed her thanks for the warm reception of the Chinese school.

At the Confucius Institute in Bergen,ChairZHANG Yingjie and her delegation had a discussion with Rune Ingebrigtsen, dean of the Confucius Institute in Norway, Prof. LI Juqian, and volunteer representatives of the Confucius Institute. Dean Ingebrigtsen introduced to the delegation the development history of the Confucius Institute in Bergen, unique experience in running a school, and the problems it faces. Prof. LI Juqian reported on the relevant experience and problems of the Confucius Institute in running the school in Northern Europe. The Confucius Institute in Bergen, an important platform for Sino-Norwegian cultural exchanges, has made great contributions to the international promotion of Chinese language and Sino-Norwegian friendly exchanges, saidChairZHANG Yingjie. As the development of KUST in Copenhagen Business Confucius Classroom is also facing huge challenges, we hope to learn from the Bergen Confucius Institutein orderto do a good job in the Confucius Classroom, as well as to attract more students tolearn theChineselanguage and culture at the Confucius Institute (Classroom), so as to contribute to cultural exchanges between China and the Nordic region, saidChairZHANG Yingjie. Prof. Rune Ingebrigtsen introduced the basic situation of Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and expressed his hope that relevant cooperation and exchanges between Western Norwegian University of Applied Sciences and KUST will be promoted through Confucius Institute.

The visit further promoted the implementation of the internationalization strategy ofthe university, intensified the international promotion of Chinese language and culture, strengthened the training of talents in international organizations, and broadened the exchange and cooperation between Nordic universities and KUST.
