On the afternoon of October 20th, the final round of the 2022 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” English Public Speaking Contest of KUST was held. The contest was sponsored by the Division of Teaching Administration and organized by the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures. Students from a variety of faculties participated in the contest.

After intense competition, Zhu Enli and Ding Ziyue from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures, and Zheng Yiming from the Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering won the Grand Prize Award. They will participate in the Yunnan provincial finals of the contest on behalf of KUST. The following faculties won the Award of Excellent Organization: the Graduate School, the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, the Faculty of Information Engineering and Automation, the Faculty of Transportation Engineering, the Faculty of Art and Communication, and the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures.

The contest included three sessions, namely, a prepared speech, a Q&A, and an impromptu speech, and the topic for the prepared speech of this year was “China's Wisdom for the World”. The contestants elaborated on their views of China's wisdom for the world from different perspectives and aspects such as poverty alleviation, green development, the Belt and Road Initiative, pandemic prevention and control, etc. They also told the story of China in English vividly and conveyed China's voice to the world. After the competition, the judges commented on the contestants' performance, spoke highly of the quality of their English speech, and gave advice to them on how to improve their public speaking.

The annual English Public Speaking Contest builds a high-level and high-quality platform for students to improve their comprehensive proficiency in the English language, and plays a positive role in enriching the campus’s cultural life. It is also one of the examples of KUST’s continuous brand-building activities of discipline competitions to realize “promoting learning through competition and enhancing teaching through competition”.
