On November 30, “2021 Maritime Silk Road International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application Metallurgical and Energy Engineering” was held at the Lianhua campus of KUST. The conference was sponsored by the National Center for Schooling Development Programme (CSDP)of the Ministry of Education and jointly co-organized by Yunnan Provincial Department of Education and KUST. More than 100 experts and scholars from well-known colleges and universities, research institutes, enterprises and public institutions at home and abroad attended the conference. Attendees joined through online recording and live broadcast and offline attendance and were able to carry out in-depth discussion on the current hot issues in metallurgy and energy. Deputy Director of Yunnan Provincial Department of Education ZHAO Derong and Vice President of KUST YI Jianhong attended the opening ceremony.

ZHAO Derong delivered a speech on behalf of the provincial Education Department. He said: “Yunnan features prominently along the Maritime Silk Road and has the geographical advantage of China’s opening-up to South Asia and Southeast Asia.Yunnan shouldfocus on policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, people-to-people bonds, and thus promote all-round international exchanges and cooperation with countries along the Silk Road.” KUST is one of the universities supported by the Double First-class Initiative in Yunnan Province. Metallurgy and Energy Engineering is one of the disciplines in KUST with the greatest educational strength, the highest educational level and the most prominent characteristics. There are considerable opportunities and potential for the industry-university-research-application cooperation with countries along the Silk Road in this discipline.
On behalf of KUST, Vice-chancellor Yi Jianhong expressed his gratitude to the CSDP and Yunnan Provincial Department of Education, and briefly introduced the achievements of KUST in metallurgy and energy. A group of outstanding scientific talents, provincial, municipal and school leaders and entrepreneurs, represented by academicians XU Zuyao, YIN Zhiwen, ZHANG Guocheng, DAI Yongnian and PENG Jinhui, have emerged in the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering of KUST. The Faculty has successively carried out international scientific and technological cooperation with colleges, universities and enterprises from the United States, Japan, Germany, France and other developed countries in metallurgy. It is also committed to cooperating with neighboring countries in technology transfer and personnel training to promote Chinese enterprises to “go out”.
At the opening ceremony, the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering of KUST signed strategic cooperation agreements with the Administration Committee of Chuxiong High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Kunming Jiahe Science and Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly promote the internationalization of production, education, research and application of metallurgical and energy engineering in Yunnan.

During the seminar, more than 30 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad gave online academic reports. The offline experts and scholars carried out in-depth discussions on various special topics.
Professor MA Wenhui of Pu 'er University introduced “The Industry Trends of Photovoltaic Silicon and Silicon Solar Cell.” Prof. SHUAI Yong of Harbin Institute of Technology briefly described "Energy Technology Innovation and Talent Training Requirements to Serve the Dual Carbon Goal.” Prof. Takayuki Watanabe of Kyushu University, Japan, introduced “Innovative Research on Nanomaterials Synthesis by Thermal plasma.” Prof. HOU Zhengmeng of Technische Uni.Clausthal in Germany talked about "Inspiration of German Energy Conversion and Carbon Neutrality to China.” Prof. Mansoor Barati, the University of Toronto in Canada gave a presentation entitled "Thermodynamic Lens: The Most Useful Tool for Metallurgists.” Prof. Volker Hessel, University of Adelaide, Australia, gave a presentation on "Application of Destructive Plasma Technology to Regional Ammoniate Production.”

The symposium is a sub-forum of the “2021 Maritime Silk Road International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application”, held simultaneously at the main venue in Xiamen University. To implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee with President Xi Jinping at its core and accelerate the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Ministry of Education launched the International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application in June 2018. Over the past two plus years, the conference has met the requirements of development and cooperation at home and abroad, promoted the integration of industry, education, research and applications, and made positive contributions to build a community with a shared future for all mankind.
