On April 2nd, after noticing from the news report that Ruili was in urgent need of Burmese translation, Yunnan Key Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence of KUST immediately donated 100 self-developed intelligent translators for Southeast Asian languages (a market value of about 200,000 RMB) to the frontline of pandemic prevention and control. These translators can perform two-way voice translation in Chinese with 41 foreign languages, including Burmese and Vietnamese with high speed and accuracy, and the translation effectiveness leads the industry.

As Ruili has been in lockdown, the laboratory contacted the Ruili Public Security Bureau to express their willingness to donate. With the strong support of the Bureau, the translators were soon sent to the Bureau by express on the evening of April 2nd.

As a Chinese saying goes, “When disaster struck, help came from all sides.” At the critical moment of pandemic prevention and control in Ruili, the whole country is helping Ruili to fight against the pandemic. As a scientific research team of Yunnan colleges and universities, we actively responded to the instructions of the Yunnan provincial committee and the provincial government on pandemic prevention and control, and donated our self-developed translators, (called) Yunling, to help Ruili, hoping to provide technical support for Chinese-Burmese translation, which shows the responsibilities of local scientific researchers through action. Our team is ready to provide online support and on-site technical guidance if necessary, to do our best to fight against the pandemic," said Associate Professor MAO Cunli from the laboratory.
