Pan Bo, Vice President of KUST, presided over the ceremony.

Tang Jiahua gave an overview of KUST in his speech for the ceremony. He stated that, based on the needs for both its Double First-Class construction and Yunnan’s socio-economic development, KUST will introduce strategic scientists as well as skilled workers urgently needed in key areas of certain industries. He said KUST is striving to build a high-quality talent team with sufficient staff, reasonable structure, and high-end guidance, provide platforms for the transformation and incubation of scientific and technological achievements, create an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship, and generate new momentum for Yunnan’s development.

Song Guangxing noted in his speech that in recent years, Yunnan Province has vigorously implemented the strategy on developing a quality workforce and regarded talent as the primary resource to support its development. To attract more international scientific and technological talents with global vision to engage in innovation and entrepreneurship in Yunnan, it has implemented more proactive, open, and effective talent policies, thus providing high-level intellectual support to Yunnan's development.

Wang Qingmei elaborated on Yunnan's strengths in attracting investment from the four aspects, namely ecological environment, natural resources and specialties, location advantages, and development platforms, focusing on six industries of Yunnan including modern agriculture with plateau characteristics, tourism, biomedical industry, advanced manufacturing industry, etc. She also hoped that more talents could take root in the province and advance its development through their projects, technologies, and resources. In addition, she introduced Yunnan’s investment promotion policy including industrial layout optimization, a “policy mix” and a “gift package” for businesses, business environment improvement, and so on. Under the title “Coupling Rigidity with Flexibility: Interpretation of Yunnan’s Important Talent Policies”, Yu Jinhua highlighted Yunnan's “rigorous” and “flexible” practice for talent attraction, covering its goals, requirements, support policies, application, and review procedures.

As a talent representative of Yunnan Province, Ji Weizhi gave a keynote speech entitled “Focusing on Drug Effectiveness Evaluation and Biotechnology Therapies: Building a Primate Biomedicine and Technology Industrial Chain”. Taking into consideration both challenges faced by the biomedical industry and the advantages of Yunnan, he suggested that Yunnan should focus on the basic research in biomedicine, drug research and development, and biotechnology innovation, thus Yunnan’s biomedical industrial chain will ultimately be formed, which will lay a foundation for Yunnan's economic development. Academician Hou Zhengmeng made a keynote speech on behalf of overseas high-level talents. Le Thi Quynh Xuan, the representative of foreign young talents in KUST, shared her practical experiences and insights into personal fulfillment and career development. Yang Yanjie and Li Xiang, two representatives of young entrepreneurs, also shared their ideas at the forum.

At the conference, KUST signed tentative agreements with many representatives of young scholars as well as agreements on achievement transformation and enterprises’ entry into KUST’s Science Park with representatives of entrepreneurs.

During the two-day event, young talents will have in-depth exchanges and discussions with the representatives of the relevant faculties of KUST, whilst young entrepreneurs will further inspect KUST’s Science Park and high-tech platforms, and attend a symposium for entrepreneurs on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
