On May 15, Vice President Dong Baocheng of Soochow University (Taiwan, China) and two accompanying officials visited KUST. Wang Qiliang, Vice President of KUST, received the guests on behalf of the university and had a formal discussion with them.

On the symposium, both sides introduced the situation of their respective schools and expressed their hope to strengthen mutual visits and exchanges of the teachers and students between the two universities and to carry out academic communication and cooperation. Both of the universities believed that the exchanges and visits of young students are of great significance to the strengthening of bilateral understanding and the promotion of cross-Straits peace.

Before the symposium, Dong Baocheng gave an academic lecture on the current situation and development of Administrative Procedure Law in Taiwan province to the faculty and students of the Law School. He firstly introduced the historical ties between Soochow University with mainland China and Yunnan province, and then elaborated on the theoretical and practical issues of Administrative Procedure Law in Taiwan province, which has been in force for over 22 years, from four aspects: the scope of regulation, characteristics, dilemmas and challenges faced, and future development. Ruan Jinxiang, fellow Dean of Soochow University School of Business, visited the Faculty of Management and Economics.

Soochow University (SCU) was founded in 1900 by the Christian Supervisory Union in Suzhou as the first Western-style university in China; it was reestablished in 1951 as the first private university in Taiwan province. This time-honored university has the same origin as Soochow University in Jiangsu Province and they are sister schools of each other. Soochow University has a high academic reputation in the fields of law, business and big data management.

Relevant personnel from KUST’s Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, the Law School, the Faculty of Management and Economics, and the Institute of Social and Humanity Research attended the symposium.
