From September 28th to October 1st, Mr. Alejandro Genet, President of the National University of Casimiro Sotelo Montenegro (NUCSM), and Mr. Alfredo Lobado, Vice-president of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (NAUN), visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST). The panel was attended by Yi Jianhong, Vice-president of KUST, and the principal leaders from the School of International Education, the Division of International Cooperation, the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, the Faculty of Material Science and Engineering, and the Faculty of Land Resources Engineering.
Yi introduced KUST’s teaching and research achievements in recent years and the development of “Double First-Class” majors. The leaders of NUCSM and NAUN shared insights into their universities’ respective educational histories and academic strengths, expressing their desire to cooperate with KUST in science and education.
Through this panel, the two sides hope for future cooperation in areas such as Confucius Institutes, teacher-student exchanges, especially in minerals, agriculture, and new energy. This visit helps provide a unique platform and path for cultural exchanges and cooperation in higher education between the two countries. It will also undoubtedly facilitate a deeper understanding of China and Yunnan among Nicaraguan teachers, students, and the general public, fostering stronger bilateral relations and injecting new impetus into practical cooperation efforts.
During the visit, the Nicaraguan delegation visited various institutions, including the National Museum of China, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, the Geological Museum of the Faculty of Land Resources Engineering in KUST, and the Key Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence in Yunnan Province. They also visited key laboratories in KUST, including those in the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, the Faculty of Material Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and one general laboratory in the Faculty of Modern Agricultural Engineering.
This visit marked the first time that the leaders of Nicaraguan universities visited China. The considerate and meticulous arrangement made by KUST allowed the Nicaraguan delegation to understand KUST’s culture and scientific research endeavors deeply. This visit has improved the cultural exchanges between China and Nicaragua and deepened the friendship between the two countries, leaving a profound and positive impression of Yunnan.
