On March 24th, OudomePHONEKHAMPHENG, President of the National University of Laos (NUOL), and his 6-member delegation visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST). Vice President Zhou Fengyue welcomed the guests on behalf of the KUST and held discussions with them.
Zhou introduced KUST to the guests and briefly reviewed the joint doctoral and master’s programs between KUST and NUOL. He fully affirmed the educational cooperation between the two universities and expressed his expectation for comprehensive academic collaboration in the future. Zhou stated that KUST’s key artificial intelligence laboratory has advantages in technology, software, and products in machine translation for minor languages in Southeast Asia. Moreover, Zhou hoped to carry out in-depth scientific research cooperation with NUOL based on natural language processing.
On behalf of the NUOL PHONEKHAMPHENG expressed his gratitude to KUST for providing scholarships and excellent study conditions for Laotian students. What’s more, he expected that KUST would continue to provide more support for the training of Laotian people and that both sides would explore new modes of cooperation in the training of talented people and scientific research.
Before the meeting, PHONEKHAMPHENG and his delegation visited the Key Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence in Yunnan Province. They experienced the translation products and conference translation systems of Yunling Intelligent Translator developed in the laboratory. They highly appreciated the research and development capabilities of KUST.
The leaders of the Division of International Cooperation, School of International Education, Graduate School, and Faculty of Information Engineering and Automation attended the seminar.
