On June 1st, the Confucius Institute at Souphanouvong University (CISU) and Luang Prabang Station of the China-Laos Railway jointly held the "Chinese Talent Show in Stations" in the waiting hall of Luang Prabang Station. This activity aimed to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and put the requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping into concrete action, namely Yunnan should “actively serve and integrate into the major national development strategies, promote great development through great opening-up, and accelerate the efforts in building great international channels with neighbouring countries." It also aimed to practise the "Joint Statement on Further Deepening the Building of a China-Laos Community with a Shared Future".

In the activity, the event showcased traditional Chinese cultural performances such as opera, dancing, and martial arts to nearly 500 waiting passengers at the Luang Prabang station in Laos. The performers were all Lao students of Souphanouvong University. They had received guidance from Chinese language teachers designated by KUST to CISU and practised more than 3 months before they presented these classic performances. The show won bursts of applause from the audience and was well-received by all walks of life in Laos.

Mo Qiulan (name in Chinese), a Lao traveller said that her experience with the China-Laos Railway enabled her to feel the rapid changes in China and its sense of responsibility as a major country. She had a strong interest in Chinese culture after watching the show. The Lao people are eager to go to China to study and travel by the Railway. Mr. Liang, a Chinese traveller, said that the performance helped people feel even more warmth and thoughtfulness at the Luang Prabang Station. Chun Meijing (name in Chinese), a Lao traveller, said that this was the most accessible and popular Chinese talent show she had ever seen in Laos. She added that this gave people the feeling that China was harmonious, friendly, and tolerant, and she hoped to see and experience Chinese culture in more places.

This was the first time CISU had held the "Chinese Talent Show in Stations" along the stations in Laos. Looking forward, CISU will strengthen cooperation with Luang Prabang Station to carry out more talent shows related to Chinese and Lao cultures, which will help enrich the cultural development of each station along the Railway and give passengers a better experience.
To further enhance the influence and reputation of KUST in South Asia and Southeast Asia, CISU will focus on talent training, the promotion of the Chinese language, and cultural integration along the "China-Laos Railway", and build Chinese language service platforms and teaching sites at each station along the Railway. While enriching the cultural development of various stations in Laos, efforts will also be made to continuously improve the “Chinese + Railway Technology” curriculum and talent training model to provide “KUST” wisdom and contributions to the maintenance, operation, and development of the China-Laos railway along the line.
